The lagoon pool at JW Marriott Khao Lak runs through the resort for almost 2.5 kilometres, according to Marriott. For a swimming holiday, that is a substantial reason to look at the resort. It is not a pool you can understand from one photograph, and pool-access rooms offer a different relationship with it from rooms that only overlook the water.
Marriott also describes a family zone with water-play features, including a wave pool and slide. For a family, that changes the appeal of staying at the hotel for a whole day. The children have something specific to do, and the adults are not depending entirely on the beach being suitable for swimming. A family travelling with an infant praised the cleanliness and the way staff treated their child. Another guest found enough activities and facilities to enjoy the resort without going elsewhere. These are personal accounts, but together with the pool layout they explain why this property attracts people who want the hotel itself to be part of the trip.
I find that appealing for a slower holiday. After several busy travel days, having swimming and meals close to the room can be welcome. It is less persuasive if the main aim is to wander around town and try a new small restaurant at every meal. Paying for a resort of this scale makes more sense when you actually want to use it.
Location came up in the guest comments too. A visitor who stayed for five days said the centre was some distance away and found it easier to eat all three meals at the hotel. Another praised the food but thought meals beyond breakfast and taxis were expensive. They mentioned nearby food as an alternative. The options suit different spending styles; eating on site is not the only choice.

There is a current detail that older reviews cannot cover. When I checked Marriott's website, it carried a temporary closure notice for Waterfront restaurant because of renovations. The page directed guests to other dining venues and did not give a reopening date in the notice. That is worth knowing if breakfast at Waterfront is part of the stay you have in mind.
Sources and scope
This is a researched editorial review, not an account of a personal stay.
Five Agoda comments dated March–September 2026 were read. Marriott's official overview was checked on 10 October 2026, including its Waterfront renovation closure notice, lagoon length, pool-access rooms, and family facilities. No reopening date was shown in the notice. The villa photograph illustrates that named category, not a standard room.
